Safety Tips

Physical Fitness: The Pangarchula Trek is considered a difficult trek that requires a good level of physical fitness. Prepare with regular cardio exercises, leg strength training, and endurance-building activities. Experience in high-altitude trekking is recommended.

Acclimatization: Proper acclimatization is crucial as the trek reaches altitudes of over 4,700 meters. Spend a few days in Auli or Joshimath to acclimate, and ascend gradually during the trek to avoid altitude sickness.

Altitude Awareness: Be aware of symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, dizziness, or nausea. If symptoms persist, descend immediately and consult your guide. Carry necessary medications like Diamox.

Weather Preparedness: The weather in high-altitude regions like Pangarchula can be unpredictable. Be prepared for sudden changes, including snowfall, cold winds, and freezing temperatures.

Rishikesh to Pipalkoti

Reporting Day

Our team will pick you up from Rishikesh at 6 in the morning, the cost of the vehicle is included in the package. You will reach Pipalkoti around 5 in the evening. Snacks with tea will be served at the briefing and then you can rest for the day. Acclimatise your body and prepare for the following day. The accommodation for the day will be at the guest houses and you will have network availability.

Pipalkoti to Tugashi village via vehicle then a trek to Gulling Top

  • Altitude(Gulling camp): 2,850 m/9,400 ft.
  • Drive Distance(Pipalkoti to Tugashi): 50 km | 2-3 hrs.
  • Trek Distance(Tugashi village - Gulling camp): 3 km | 2-3 hrs .

On this day you will leave for the village of Tugashi on vehicles after having your breakfast. You can enjoy the views while driving up the village and can see Nanda Devi as well. The trek will begin from the woods of Gulling. Our campsite for the day will be at the Gulling top which is at a distance of 500 metres from the Gulling village. It is here when you'll finally spot the majestic mountain peaks for the first time on the trek. Witness Mount Dronagiri, HathiParvat, and GhoriParvat standing tall making us realise how small we are. You have your lunch at the campsite and after that, you can accommodate yourself in your assigned tents and can also go sightseeing. Click pictures at dusk when the sky is filled with beautiful colours of red, yellow and blue. Just make sure to return to your campsite before it is too dark. Have your dinner and go back to sleep

Gulling Top to Camp 1

  • Trek Distance: 5-6 km | 4-5 hrs.

Wake Up the next day, head straight towards breakfast and leave as more beautiful views, the mighty mountains, the flora and fauna and the next campsite are waiting for you. The ascent today is a steep one and will take you through the Oak, Rhododendron and Walnut forest. You’ll have your lunch at the campsite 1. The peaks you spot today will include sights from Mount Nanda Devi, Kalanka, Changbang, Dronagiri, Hathi Parvat, and Ghodi Parvat. Accomodate in your tents and rest for the day, as in higher altitudes there is a chance of Mountain illnesses therefore providing proper rest to your body is very important.

Trek From Khullara To Kuari Pass Via Khullara Top And Back Khullara | Acclimatization Walk To Kuari Pass

  • Altitude(Kuari Pass): 3,800 m/ 12,500 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 3-4 km (each way) | 5-6 hrs.

Wake up to a very exciting and challenging day. The first half of today's ascent is a steep one and the second half is a gradual ascent. You will trek towards the wide meadows and golden green grass covers which turn into snowfields right as winter strikes. For hydration keep water bottles with you and there are no sources for natural water. Apply sunscreen in intervals as the sun is harsh especially since you’ll be trekking on open meadows. The peaks you will spot on the day include Kedarnath Peak, Kedardome, Chaukhambha, Balakun, Neelkantha, Mukut Parvat, Kamet, Abhi Gamin, Mana I, Ghodi Parvat, Hathi Parvat, Dronagiri, kalanka, Changang, Nanda Devi, and Nanda Ghunti. Descend back to Camp 1 have your dinner and wind up your day.

Trek From Khullara To Pangarchulla Summit And Back To Khullara camp | Summit Day

  • Altitude(Pangarchulla Summit): 4,600 m/ 15,100 ft.
  • Trek Distance: 14 km | Duration: 11 - 12 hrs.

Be prepared as this day will challenge the adventurer inside you and it is going to be a long day of trekking. Starting your day very early at 3 am set off on fresh snow for the summit hike. The final view from the summit is magnificent and something different. You will finally see the Himalayan peaks in their full glory face to face, click a lot of good pictures, and soak in all the serenity, the fresh air, and the sense of success as you begin descending back in 15 minutes or so. Take a good sight of Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Kalanka, Changbang, Dronagiri, Hathi Parvat, Ghodi Parvat, Mana, Kamet, Abl Gamin and so many more peaks of the Himalayas. The descent can pose some challenges because of the melting snow, so be extra careful.

Trek From Khullara camp To Tugashi Village And Drive To Pipalkoti | Last Day Of Trekking

  • Trek Distance: 7-8 km | Duration: 4-5 hrs.
  • Drive Distance(Tugasi to Pipalkoti): 50 km | 2-3 hrs. 

The old trails will remind you that your adventurous journey is soon coming to an end, bid your farewell to the peaks as you’ll see them one final time on this trek. Have your breakfast and leave for the Tugashi village with packed lunch boxes. You will be reaching Pipalkoti by late in the evening. Accommodation will be in the guesthouse, and dinner will be provided.

Drive From Pipalkoti To Rishikesh | Bidding Farewell To The Mountains
  • Drive DIstance(Pipalkoti to Rishikesh): 220 km | 8-9 hrs.

The beautiful trekking expedition to the Pangarchulla Peak will come to an end on this day. We will provide vehicles that will commence at 6 in the morning and will drop you off at Rishikesh by 6 in the evening.   1. Pulse rate at rest must be in between (60 to 90 beats per minute).

  2. Blood Pressure Reading must be in between (DIASTOLIC 70 – 90, SYSTOLIC 100 – 140 mm Hg).

Government Employess

  1. Government Employees can avail the benefit of Special Casual Leave (SCL) when they join us for a trekking expedition. As per the rules of the Pay Commission, Special Casual Leave can be availed for up to 30 days in a calendar year for trekking/mountaineering expeditions through a registered organization. Trek The Himalayas is a registered adventure tour operator by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) and the Ministry Of Tourism (MOT).
  2. Trekkers have to apply for leave at least 20 days before the trek departure date.
  3. This service is exclusive to Indian government employees and is applicable only for treks within India.

  1. Junior trekkers (below 15 years) should have a company of parents/guardians.
  2. Trekkers between 15 to 18 years can come solo with the disclaimer form signed by parent/guardian.

How To Reach

Pick-Up Information

  • It is essential for everyone to arrive at Rishikesh (06:00 am)
  • Pick-up Location – Tapovan, Landmark -Nainital Bank opposite Shiv Vilas Hotel
  • Once you have reached Rishikesh, TMV will manage the rest of your travel arrangements, if you have opted for TMV’s pick-up service, you can select this option during the booking process by adding it as an add-on.

Options to Reach Rishikesh 

First, you can arrive at Delhi, Dehradun airport or Chandigarh. The journey from these locations to Rishikesh is explained below.

1. Take overnight train/bus to Rishikesh.

2. Take overnight train/bus to Haridwar and drive to Rishikesh (25km | 35 min drive with normal traffic).

3. Take overnight train/bus to Dehradun and drive to Rishikesh (50km | 1hr 20min drive with normal traffic).

( We always recommend going for the govt. Buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. Buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Rishikesh at least by 05:30 am. )

4.  Board a flight to Dehradun airport (Jolly Grant Airport) (21 km, 30 min). If you’re arriving by air, then come one day in advance.

Drop-Off Information

  • The designated drop-off point is Tapovan, Rishikesh.
  • Reach in Rishikesh by 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
  • Please consider planning your subsequent travel arrangements after 10:00 pm.

Note – In July and August month always have a buffer day in your Itinerary due to the Monsoon.

  • It’s highly advisable to keep a buffer day in your travel plan. If the buffer day is not used, it can be used to explore Rishikesh.

( If you prefer to travel independently to Base camp and don’t want to take TMV’s pick-up service, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab from Rishikesh. Your trek coordinator will provide guidance on how to arrange for the bus or cab booking. )

  • TMV offers comfortable transportation through Tempo Traveler, Bolero, or equivalent vehicles. If you wish to upgrade your mode of transportation, please contact your trek coordinator for further assistance.
