The Kuari Pass Trek is a classic Himalayan trail located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, celebrated for its breathtaking views of India’s second-highest peak, Nanda Devi (7,816 m). Popularly known as the Curzon Trail, it was first explored by Lord Curzon during the British era, making it one of the oldest and most historic treks in India.
Starting from the picturesque town of Joshimath, the Kuari Pass Trek takes you through ancient oak and rhododendron forests, charming meadows, and remote Himalayan villages. The trail opens up to panoramic views of iconic peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet, Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, and Dronagiri. Its moderate difficulty, well-defined path, and unmatched alpine beauty make it an ideal choice for both beginners and seasoned trekkers.
If you wish to experience the grandeur of the Indian Himalayas in its purest form, Kuari Pass Trek is the perfect introduction.
The best time for Kuari Pass Trek is during March to June and October to April.
Winter adds a magical layer of snow, while summer offers colorful forest trails and sweeping views — making Kuari Pass a year-round favorite.

Every section of this trek feels like a live painting — from forest walks to open snowfields and ridgeline views.
The Kuari Pass Trek is fondly called the “Window to the Garhwal Himalayas” because it offers one of the most sweeping and unobstructed views of the mighty Himalayan range. From the top, trekkers can see a 270° panorama of India’s greatest peaks — including Nanda Devi, Hathi Ghoda Parvat, Chaukhamba, and Kamet.
This unique vantage point makes Kuari Pass a photographer’s delight and a trekker’s dream. No other moderate trek in Uttarakhand offers such a grand display of Himalayan beauty in such a short span — truly making Kuari Pass the gateway to the great Himalayan vision.
Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh to Pipalkoti. Trekkers are picked up from Rishikesh early in the morning. The route along Badrinath Road is dotted with beautiful rivers, hills, and cultural landmarks. You’ll also pass through the four sacred Prayags — Devaprayag, Rudraprayag, Karnaprayag, and Nandaprayag — each offering picturesque views and spiritual significance.
Arriving at Pipalkoti around 5:00 pm, you’ll enjoy tea, a trek briefing, and dinner. Accommodation will be in a comfortable guest house.
After breakfast, drive to Tugasi Village. From here, your trek begins through terraced farms and small mountain villages. The trail gradually ascends through charming oak forests and open meadows.
Reach Gulling Top and set up camp, enjoying panoramic views of Dronagiri, Hathi Parvat, and Gauri Parbat. The evening offers a magical sunset with golden hues lighting up the peaks.
The day starts with stunning views of Dronagiri Peak. Trek through a green clearing and enter dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and walnut trees. In spring, the forest is adorned with rhododendron blossoms; in winter, it transforms into a snow-covered wonderland.
Arrive at Tali Forest Camp, a serene spot surrounded by towering trees and snow-capped peaks. Rest and enjoy the natural splendor of the Himalayas.
Summit day! Trek through breathtaking landscapes to Jhandi Top, then Khullara Top, and finally to Kuari Pass. This is the most challenging part of the trek with steep ascents, especially in snow.
At Kuari Pass, witness panoramic Himalayan vistas including Kedarnath Peak, Chaukhamba, Neelkantha, and Nanda Devi. TTH provides all necessary gear such as crampons and gaiters for safe trekking.
After breakfast, trek to Tali Lake, a high-altitude alpine lake. Continue to Gurson Bugyal, a sprawling snow-covered meadow with panoramic views. Descend gently to Auli, India’s famous skiing destination. Optionally, take a cable car ride for stunning aerial views.
From Auli, drive back to Pipalkoti, relax with evening tea, and share stories of your trek over dinner at the guest house.
The trek concludes with a scenic drive back to Rishikesh. Relish the views of rivers, valleys, and mountains one last time. Along the route, observe the four sacred river confluences.
