Majestic Peaks: The trek offers close-up views of some of the most prominent Himalayan peaks, including Thalay Sagar (6,904 m), Bhrigupanth (6,772 m), Jogin Group of Peaks, and the massive Gangotri Glacier.
Steep Ascents and Rocky Trails: The trek is known for its steep and rugged terrain, with rocky paths, moraines, and scree sections that add to the adventure. The final ascent to Kedartal is particularly challenging.
Solitude and Serenity: The trek takes you through remote areas of the Himalayas, offering a sense of solitude and connection with nature. The untouched beauty of the region is a major draw for trekkers seeking a true wilderness experience.
Diverse Landscapes: The trek starts with lush pine and birch forests, gradually ascending to alpine meadows and rocky terrains. The changing landscape is one of the highlights of the journey.
Spiritual Start: The trek begins at Gangotri, one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites. Visiting the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, adds a spiritual dimension to the adventure.
Physical Fitness: The Kedartal Trek is a difficult trek that requires excellent physical fitness. Prepare with regular cardio exercises, leg strength training, and endurance-building activities. High-altitude trekking experience is highly recommended.
Acclimatization: Proper acclimatization is crucial as the trek reaches altitudes of over 4,750 meters. Spend a few days in Gangotri to acclimate, and ascend gradually during the trek to avoid altitude sickness.
Altitude Awareness: Be aware of symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, dizziness, or nausea. If symptoms persist, descend immediately and consult your guide. Carry necessary medications like Diamox.
Weather Preparedness: The weather in high-altitude regions like Kedartal can be unpredictable. Be prepared for sudden changes, including snowfall, cold winds, and freezing temperatures.
Hydration and Nutrition: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, and keep your energy levels up with nutritious snacks. Avoid consuming alcohol or smoking during the trek, as they can exacerbate altitude sickness.
Start Early: Begin your trek early in the day to ensure you have enough daylight to reach your campsite. Early starts also provide better weather conditions and clearer views.
Respect Local Culture and Environment: Respect the local culture and traditions, especially when visiting Gangotri Temple. Practice “Leave No Trace” principles—do not litter, respect wildlife, and avoid disturbing the natural environment.
Your Kedartal adventure begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Gangotri — one of the sacred Char Dhams of Uttarakhand. The journey passes through the picturesque valleys of Uttarkashi, along the Tehri Dam, and the charming Harsil valley. As you ascend, the forests grow denser and the air turns crisp.
Gangotri, located on the banks of River Bhagirathi, is not just a pilgrimage site but also the base camp for the Kedartal Trek. Legend says that it was here that King Bhagirath’s penance brought the River Ganga down to earth. After reaching Gangotri by evening, check into your guesthouse, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest well for the trek ahead.
Spend the day acclimatizing to the high altitude and exploring the spiritual town of Gangotri. Visit the Gangotri Temple, Surya Kund, and Pandav Gufa — all rich in mythological significance. Stroll through the local market, interact with pilgrims, and enjoy the evening Ganga Aarti by the riverside.
This day helps your body adjust to the mountain environment and prepares you for the climb ahead.
Today’s trek from Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak marks your true entry into the wild. The trail starts across the Bhagirathi River at Bhairav Ghati and winds through dense forests of Bhojpatra trees — once used for ancient Sanskrit writings.
The Kedar Ganga River flows beside you throughout the trail. After several steep ascents and three water points, you’ll face the famous Spider Wall, a thrilling section where only one foot fits at a time. With the support of our technical team, you’ll safely cross this stretch.
Your Bhoj Kharak campsite is surrounded by Rhododendron and Bhoj trees, with stunning views of Mt. Thalaysagar towering above.
A short yet beautiful day of trekking awaits you. After a steep initial ascent, the trail opens up into alpine meadows filled with wildflowers — especially beautiful during the post-monsoon months.
Keep your eyes open for blue sheep (Bharal) and Himalayan birds along the trail. The meadows of Kedar Kharak offer mesmerizing views of Brighupanth Peak and the cascading Kedar Ganga River. Don’t miss the surreal sunset that paints the peaks in golden hues.
The most awaited day of the trek! Begin early to reach the stunning Kedartal Lake, also known as Shiva’s Lake. The trail is steep and rocky, passing through barren moraines and scree slopes with three ridges to cross.
As you climb the final ridge, the emerald waters of Kedartal appear — perfectly reflecting the mighty Thalaysagar Peak. From the lake, you can see panoramic views of Mt. Manda, Brighupanth, Thalaysagar, Gangotri, Bhagirathi, and Mt. Meru.
Spend some quiet moments soaking in this divine sight before retracing your steps back to Kedar Kharak.
After capturing the sunrise over the peaks, descend back through Bhoj Kharak to Gangotri. The long descent demands caution on loose rocks, but the familiar trail and the sound of Kedar Ganga will guide you.
If time permits, attend the evening Ganga Aarti at Gangotri — a perfect way to end your mountain journey.
After breakfast, bid farewell to the Himalayas. Our vehicle will drop you back at Dehradun by evening. Make sure to plan your onward journey after 8:30 PM to avoid delays due to mountain traffic.
Return home carrying unforgettable memories of the Kedartal Trek — a journey through legends, lakes, and lofty peaks.
