Every moment on this trail feels like stepping into a postcard — serene, colorful, and soul-soothing.
Nestled in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, Dayara Bugyal Trek is one of the most stunning alpine meadow treks in India. The word “Bugyal” translates to “high-altitude meadow”, and Dayara truly lives up to its name with its endless rolling grasslands that seem to touch the sky.
Situated at an altitude of around 12,000 feet, this trek offers mesmerizing views of towering Himalayan peaks like Bandarpunch, Srikanth, Black Peak, and Gangotri range.
Starting from the quaint village of Barsu or Raithal, the trail takes you through dense oak and rhododendron forests, crystal-clear streams, and scenic campsites. The open expanse of Dayara Bugyal unfolds suddenly, leaving trekkers awestruck by its vastness and 360° mountain panoramas.
With its gentle gradients and moderate altitude gain, the Dayara Bugyal Trek is perfect for beginners, families, and nature enthusiasts looking for a taste of the Himalayas without extreme difficulty.
The best time for Dayara Bugyal Trek is from May to June and December to February, depending on what you wish to experience.
Whether you choose the flowery summer version or the snow-covered winter version, Dayara Bugyal promises breathtaking beauty year-round.
The Dayara Bugyal Trek difficulty level is easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners and families with basic fitness.
The total trekking distance is around 20–25 km, spread over 4 to 5 days. The gradual ascents allow ample time for acclimatization, and the well-marked trail ensures a comfortable trekking experience.
During winters, the snow may add a slight challenge, but with proper gear and guidance, it remains one of the safest Himalayan treks for first-timers.
Dayara Bugyal is often called the “Crown Meadow of Uttarakhand” because of its vast, undulating beauty that shines like a jewel amid the Himalayas. The meadow’s sweeping views and year-round charm make it one of the most photogenic and rewarding short treks in India.
Unlike other high-altitude treks that demand endurance, Dayara offers Himalayan grandeur with comfort — truly the crown jewel among Uttarakhand’s meadows.

As the drive unfolds, witness the changing landscapes—from the bustling plains of Dehradun to the serene mountain roads leading toward Uttarkashi. Along the way, catch your first glimpses of the Gangotri range and Shrikanth peak. You can pause briefly to capture these stunning Himalayan views.
The last major stop en route is Uttarkashi, followed by smaller settlements like Bhatwari. By afternoon, you’ll reach Natin village, surrounded by terraced fields and mountain views. After settling in, enjoy a briefing session with your trek leader and team over evening tea.

Carry at least 2 liters of water since there are no sources en route. As you gain altitude, the views of the Gangotri peaks and Srikanth mountain become more prominent. In spring, rhododendrons color the forest in red and pink, while winter covers the trail in white snow.
By afternoon, you’ll arrive at Gui campsite—a beautiful open patch surrounded by forest. After lunch, stroll around for acclimatization or capture the scenic surroundings. Dinner and overnight stay in tents under a starry sky.

Once at the campsite, you’ll be served a hot lunch. The Chilapada campsite lies amidst oak and maple trees and offers excellent photo opportunities. Evening tea followed by a light walk helps in acclimatization. After dinner, unwind under a glittering night sky before resting in your tents.
Altitude:
Today is the summit day—the highlight of the Dayara Bugyal trek! After an early breakfast, start the trek toward the Dayara summit. The trail gradually climbs through a forest and soon opens into vast alpine meadows blanketed with snow in winter.
The meadows are dotted with shepherd huts and surrounded by peaks like Bandarpoonch, Jaonli, and the Dodital range. The final stretch to the top is a bit steep but immensely rewarding. From the summit, the 360° view of the Himalayas is absolutely mesmerizing.
After spending some time soaking in the beauty and having your packed lunch, descend toward Nayata campsite. The trail passes through meadows and forested areas before reaching the campsite surrounded by rhododendron and maple trees.
Enjoy dinner and rest after an unforgettable summit experience.
