The Brahmatal Trek is best experienced in the winter months of December to February when the entire trail is blanketed with snow, creating a true winter wonderland. During this time, both Brahmatal and Bekaltal remain frozen, adding to the trek’s magical appeal. For trekkers who prefer milder conditions and blooming rhododendrons, March and April are also excellent months to visit, offering clear skies and vibrant forest trails.
Brahmatal is considered a moderate trek, making it suitable for both beginners and seasoned trekkers. The trek covers an altitude of around 12,150 ft, with daily walking distances of 6–8 km on average. While the snow-covered trails can be physically demanding in peak winter, the well-paced itinerary and gradual altitude gain make it manageable for anyone with basic fitness and preparation. Proper winter gear and stamina are essential to fully enjoy this Himalayan experience.

Day-3: Gujreni campsite to Tilandi
Altitude: 3,200 m/ 10,500 ft.
Trek distance: 3km | Approx. 4hrs.
Day-4: Tilandi to Brahmatal lake and summit

Morning return starts towards Rishikesh.
The journey to Brahmatal begins from Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World. From Rishikesh an approximate drive of 10 hours, covering 250 kilometers, will take you to Lohajung, the base camp for Brahmatal trek. Lohajung is a quaint mountain town in the Chamoli district, Uttarakhand.
Although the journey is quite long, there will be occasional breaks for breakfast and lunch. All through the journey enjoy the presence of Mother Ganga. We will even stop in Devprayag for a while where you can witness the spectacular confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers. We will also pass through two other holy confluences – Rudraprayag, and Karanprayag. In Rudraprayag, witness the confluence of Mandakini and Alakananda River, and in Karanprayag you can witness the confluence of Alaknanda and Pindar River.
You will feel the journey is blessed by this immense spiritual presence ! Once you reach Lohajung you will be accommodated in the guest house. If we reach before evening, you can witness the grand Nanda Ghunti peak on a clear day. Enjoy the sunset colors, hot snacks and tea and get ready for the adventure starting from the next day.
An early wake up will be mentioned in the briefing previous day. This will gift you the spellbinding sunrise over the majestic Himalayan mountain ranges visible from the village itself!
After enjoying the sunrise and morning tea get ready with your packing and for the trek. You will be served hot breakfast. Refill and recharge yourself and start the trekking. Our Day 2 campsite is at Gujreni. All the briefing will be done by your trek lead. Follow his instructions and get ready for an amazing adventure.
From Lohajung you will start one a well laid trail. The trail will have moderate ascend through ancient forest, a few mountain huts here and there. You will soon reach the Mundoli village. From this village the path will gradually take you through dense Rhododendron forest, which depending on the weather may or may not be covered in snow. The weather will keep getting colder as you ascend so make sure to dress up accordingly or keep the necessary items within reach like gloves, bandana etc.
We will reach at Begum, which is a vantage point after couple of hours of trekking. This vantage point will introduce you to the spectacular high altitude meadows. After Begum there will a stream crossing a few moments later and after another hour you will finally reach Day 2 campsite at Gujreni, a forest campsite.
We will have a short evening walk towards Bekaltal and from there to the nearby sunset viewing point and then back at the campsite before dark.
Today is the third day of the trek and get ready for another amazing day full of adventur and excitement. Today we will reach to Tilandi, our Day 3 campsite. The trek from Gujreni to Tilandi, based on the speed of the team, it will take approximately 4 hours.
After a hot and sumptuous breakfast in the morning we will pack our bags and start the journey. Today’s walk will take us through the dense, snow covered forest. We will also come across meadows that will be covered in snow offering a winter playground! The peace and quiet of the entire route is something to savour and rejuvenate your soul away from the city chaos!
After crossing the forest path and stepping into the meadows you will be greeted by the majestic mountain peaks like Mt. Trishul and Mt. Nanda Ghunti and some more mountain ranges invoking an awe-inspiring grandeur! The Tilandi campsite is located near the meadows from where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Once you reach the campsite, settle down in your designated tents and then enjoy the sunset colors with hot snacks. Once darkness spread its cover after the sunset, on a clear night enjoy the starry blanket hovering over the campsite! Rest, reset and get ready for next day’s adventure!
Day 4 marks culmination of this entire adventure as we start the trek from Tilandi to Brahmatal. Today’s trek will be to reach Brahmatal lake where our campsite will be and to reach there we will cross Jhandi Top and famous meadow. We will also attempt the Brahmatal summit and come back to the campsite. The total journey will take around 7-8 hours with adequate rest and food in between.
After a hot and healthy breakfast we will start on our way. The start of the walk will be on mountain ridge, an exciting experience! We will keep trekking to reach Jhandi top. As we walk and reach the vantage point you will witness the 360 degrees panorama of majestic peaks graced by of Mt. Nanda Ghunti and Mt. Trishul. Bask in the glory of these majestic peaks and live your insta-worthy moments!
After spending some quality time at the Jhandi top we will resume our journey to Brahmatal top, the highest point of this trek at an altitude of 12,250ft. However, we will not stay there. After reaching the top and enjoy the experience we will descend to Brahmatal lake, the sacred and famous lake. This is also the main highlight of this trek. In peak winter time this lake completely freezes offering a magical surface! Enjoy the peace, serenity of the environment and savour the excitement of achievement of reaching the highest point of this trek!
Today begins the return journey. We will descend towards Lohajung. The day will be marked by long walk of approximately 8 hours to reach the village. We will start the return journey after enjoying a good breakfast. Retracing all the magnificent views we encountered earlier, the panoramic mountain views, the forest walk, we will slowly descend to Lohajung.
Once we are back at the guesthouse, enjoy evening snacks and the sunset. Rest of the time till next morning you have time to explore this quaint mountain village. Enjoy a stroll and breath in the fresh air, share the tales and the experience. Evening we will gather to distribute the certificates of completion of the trek.
On this last day of the trek bid adieu to the incredible adventure and take back loads of memories. We will start our journey towards Rishikesh after breakfast.
As you will reach Rishikesh around evening, plan your onward journey accordingly.

First, you can arrive at Delhi, Dehradun airport or Chandigarh. The journey from these locations to Rishikesh is explained below.
1. Take overnight train/bus to Rishikesh.
2. Take overnight train/bus to Haridwar and drive to Rishikesh (25km | 35 min drive with normal traffic).
3. Take overnight train/bus to Dehradun and drive to Rishikesh (50km | 1hr 20min drive with normal traffic).
( We always recommend going for the govt. Buses over the private ones outside the bus station as based on the experience we have found that there are very high chances of delay involved with private buses. Also, govt. Buses are always more reliable. Whichever bus you choose, just make sure to reach Rishikesh at least by 05:30 am. )
4. Board a flight to Dehradun airport (Jolly Grant Airport) (21 km, 30 min). If you’re arriving by air, then come one day in advance.
Note – In July and August month always have a buffer day in your Itinerary due to the Monsoon.
( If you prefer to travel independently to Base camp and don’t want to take TMV’s pick-up service, you can either take a government bus or book a private cab from Rishikesh. Your trek coordinator will provide guidance on how to arrange for the bus or cab booking. )
